regarding the high prevalence of hyperlipidaemia, which is one of the major risk factors of cardiovascular disease, and uncertain reports about the relation between periodontal disease and serum lipid profile, this study was conducted to assess this relation. the historical cohort study was conducted on 52 cases including 26 persons with chronic periodontitis as case group, and 26 healthy subjects as control group. both groups had the same age and weight ranges, sex, and diet, without any periodontal treatment history in the past six months, underling systemic disease such as diabetes, anti-hyperlipidemic drugs or active tobacco smoking history. low density lipoprotein (ldl), high density lipoprotein (hdl), triglyceride (tg) and total cholesterol (chol) were measured by direct enzymatic assay. tg level was 128.4±71.1 mg/dl in control group and 165.2± 83.7 in case group indicating a significantly higher level in case group ( p p

[Association between chronic periodontitis and serum lipid levels].

BACKGROUND/AIM Periodontitis is a local inflammatory process mediating destruction of periodontal tissues triggered by bacterial insult. However, this disease is also characterized by systemic inflammatory host responses that may contrbute, in part, to the recently reported increased risk for systemic diseases, including an altered lipid metabolism. On the other hand, many people in the world a...

Association between serum levels of vitamin D and chronic periodontitis in premenopausal women in Yazd

Introduction: Periodontal disease is a common chronic inflammatory disease, considered as a primary cause of tooth loss due to the destruction of periodontal tissues. Various studies have shown that vitamin D has anti-inflammatory and anti-microbial properties and plays a significant role in musculoskeletal health. There is strong evidence that vitamin D deficiency may increase the likelihood o...

Relationship between female androgenetic alopecia and serum lipid levels

Background: Androgenetic alopecia (AGA) is a non-scarring alopecia which consists of miniaturization of the terminal hair under the influence of androgens. Some scholars have reported an association between AGA and coronary artery disease (CAD), probably due to alterations in CAD risk factors. However, this association is not supported by other studies, thus rendering the subject open to discus...

Lipoprotein-associated phospholipase A2 and serum lipid levels in subjects with chronic periodontitis and hyperlipidemia.

OBJECTIVE To evaluate the relationships between clinical periodontal parameters and levels of lipoprotein-associated phospholipase A2 (Lp-PLA2) and lipid profile markers in subjects with or without hyperlipidaemia. METHODS Forty chronic periodontitis (CP) subjects with hyperlipidaemia (CP/HPL group), 40 systemically healthy CP subjects (CP group) and 20 systemically and periodontally healthy ...

Association between serum interleukin-1β levels and perinatal asphyxia

Objective: Asphyxia  is  a  major  cause  of  acute  mortality  and  chronic  neurologic  disability  in  neonates. We sought to  define  the  predictive  values  of  serum  concentrations  of  interleukin-1β  in  newborns  with perinatal asphyxia to see if there is a relation between interleukin-1β (IL-1β) levels to the short term neurological deficit.  Methods: This was a prospective (case-co...
